Logitech Finally Made a Keyboard Worthy of Its Best Mouse. For years, Logitech’s productivity mice have been among the best, with devices like the MX Master 2. S helping to bring PC and Mac users together thanks to a cool software solution called, Flow which allows users to use the same mice with multiple computers at once. But for a long time, the company never had a keyboard that could deliver the same sort of style and quality its pointers delivered. So despite a pretentious sounding name like Craft (the only thing worse would be to call this thing an artisanal keyboard) and not having mechanical keys that are all the rage among the youths of today, Logitech’s new wireless keyboard is a delightful piece of tech. I’ve only used it for a few days, but its cushioned scissor switches are damn near whisper silent, which is a big plus for people who works next to inconsiderate assholes using keyboards with clackety Cherry Blue switches.(I’m kidding, kind of.) The keys also have a comforting indent and chiclet style layout which makes switching between laptop and desktop keyboards a cinch, even if you’re a Mac. Book user. And the backlighting has a special party trick thanks to its proximity sensor, which makes the keyboard light up whenever you get close. But the absolute best thing about Craft is that when teamed up with another Flow- enabled device like Logitech’s MX Master 2. S mouse, it completely eliminates the need for archaic tech like KVM switches. Controlling multiple computers with the same input devices has never been easier. Logitech Flow even lets you copy and paste things across up to three different machines, and because Flow works over Bluetooth or Logitech’s own wireless dongle, there’s no cords to worry about either. Another nice feature on the Craft is the big dial on the top left. It can do normal stuff like adjust the volume of your computer, but it also works with Microsoft and Adobe software. Now you can use the dial to adjust settings in apps like Photoshop and Powerpoint. It’s the same idea behind the Surface Dial, and it gives you precise, granular control when you want to adjust things like contrast or opacity. The main drawback is that only seven apps are fully supported right now (four from Adobe and three in MS Office), though Logitech says more are on their way. And while important apps like Chrome don’t have any pre- installed controls either, you can create your own dial shortcuts on a somewhat limited basis. But before the fawning goes too far, I must mention that the Craft isn’t perfect. It doesn’t have adjustable legs in back, so people who like a little angle to their keyboard dangle are out of luck. And if you choose to keep the backlighting on, in wireless mode, Logitech says the Craft will only last about a week, which is far less than some of its past wireless keyboard like the Di. Novo Edge. It’s helpful nod to the future that a lot of other accessory makers seem to be ignoring. That ain’t cheap by anyone’s standards, but it’s not that different than a high- quality mechanical keyboard, and the Craft has way more features. ![]() The Craft is due out sometime in October. Well, it's not so tranquil anymore after an execution style murder took place in a much- trafficked area of town. War Machine movie review: In which Brad Pitt plays an idiot to explosive success. War Machine. Director - David Michod. Cast - Brad Pitt, Ben Kingsley, Scoot Mc. Nairy, Topher Grace, Tilda Swinton. Rating - 3/5. No actor plays dimwits quite like Brad Pitt. And they aren’t just regular old dimwits: They’re the sort of bafflingly idiotic, all- star dimwits you couldn’t picture using a spoon properly, let alone carrying out assassinations and attempting blackmail – which is exactly the sort of debauchery they invariably find themselves neck deep in. ![]() The dimwits. But there’s more to it than just how excellent he is at playing these characters. It’s what he does with them. He gives them a purpose. He puts them on a mission – keep in mind, it’s a mission they’re thoroughly ill- equipped to deal with – but in their empty little heads, overflowing with delusions of grandeur, they’re the experts. I can never forget – despite my cripplingly hazy recall abilities – the film Burn After Reading, specifically the idiotic grin Pitt twists on his face moments before being shot in it, or Lt Aldo Raine from Inglourious Basterds, and his impeccably inept Italian accent (Goar- lah- mee). And while it can be argued with fair reason that the pikey from Snatch isn’t a dimwit – seeing as he turns out to be quite the scheming devil at the end – the fact that Pitt plays him as one throughout the movie should qualify him for this League of Extraordinary Gentle- idiots. In War Machine, the new political satire from director David Michod, which also happens to be streaming giant Netflix’s biggest film yet, Pitt plays four- star General Stanley Mc. Mahon, based on the actual four- star General Stanley Mc. Chrystal. He is, like the characters I mentioned above, an utter dimwit. But not in the traditional sense. Like those characters, General Mc. Mahon has his idiosyncrasies – an exaggerated accent, and the most comically memorable run (you read that correctly) since Johnny Depp’s Captain Jack Sparrow. But beneath the doofus exterior, he is, like Chad from Burn After Reading, Aldo the Apache from Inglourious Basterds, a man utterly out of his element, controlled - unbeknownst to him - by larger (and considerably more intelligent) organisations. In War Machine, that organisation is the US Army. Mc. Mahon’s sent to Afghanistan at the tail end of the war – which has, by most accounts, been a complete PR nightmare – to bring it to an end. The whole operation has the look and feel of an elaborate crisis management exercise, complete with communications experts, media relations professionals, and not, as should ideally have been the case, a large- scale rebuilding of a nation destroyed by drugs and violence. Imagine if Salman Khan, after the revolving door of fiascos he has been involved in, instead of hiring professionals and launching his Being Human organisation, were to simply send his trusty bodyguard Shera to slap into silence anyone stupid enough to pose a challenge. Mc. Mahon is neither an arrogant beefcake, and nor is he a devious mastermind. He is a relic of a bygone era, the flipside to the same indoctrination he is tasked with bringing down. Often, we describe individuals who excel in their fields by declaring that they were born to do it. Quick example: Roger Federer was born to play tennis, or, keeping with the theme, Brad Pitt was born to play dimwits. You get the gist. Similarly, General Mc. Mahon was born to lead a nation into war. He was born to win. His entire life has been spent in training to perform this duty. But tragically - and this is where it gets funny and the satire bit kicks in - there is little else he seems to be competent at. When the machinery behind the operation begins to kick in, and when the realisation strikes him that he isn’t as in control as he has led himself to believe, he unravels. Unfortunately for him, it happens in the presence of a particularly nosey journalist. He seeks a friend in a jarringly (in a good way) foul- mouthed President Hamid Karzai, played by Ben Kingsley, who makes the baffling choice of giving the former Afghan President’s voice the cadence of – and I kid you not – the Dalai Lama. It is a choice made all the more perplexing because Hamid Karzai is a real person – and he most certainly does not sound like the Dalai Lama. But that’s the sort of film War Machine is - bizarre, darkly funny, occasionally sharp - the sort of film in which characters don’t quite know what to do with their hands, or their mouths. But this Brad Pitt performance is something else. In fact, it often overwhelms the film. I’ve now seen three features, one documentary, and one episode of TV directed by David Michod. Strangely, and rather impressively, there is nothing – not tone, theme, technique, or structure – that connects any of his works with each other, or to the man who directed them. Which is good news, if you’re interested in watching the sort of movies you normally wouldn’t. Because War Machine certainly isn’t the sort of film too many people would pay to watch in a theatre. Which is telling, since it won’t be released in theatres at all. But we live in fortunate times – at least as far as movies are concerned. There is a debate raging about the future of cinema and the role Netflix plays in it. While traditionalists are understandably up in arms (there is no denying that the moviegoing experience will suffer), for us, here in India, a country that rarely attracts art house fare (or even mainstream stuff, like Jordan Peele’s sleeper hit of the year Get Out), this could prove as industry- altering as the introduction of the Pirate. Breitbart TV is the home of the hottest video on politics, world events, culture, and media. The magic is actually a science- based audio illusion called a Shepard tone. Named after psychologist Roger Shepard, a pioneer in our understanding of spatial relation, the effect sounds like an infinitely ascending or descending scale. The tones are constantly moving upwards or downwards, but they never seem to reach a pinnacle or nadir. This is accomplished by stacking scales on top of each other—typically one treble scale, one midrange, and one bass—with an octave in between, then playing them in a continuous loop. A Shepard tone is sometimes referred to as the barber pole of sound. You can even see the similarity, when you hear it and look at the spectrum view of a Shepard tone. Don’t listen to this too long, or you might lose your mind: Anyways, Christopher Nolan just loves this. With longtime collaborator Hans Zimmer, the acclaimed director has used a Shepard tone in almost every one of his films in the last decade. He even writes his scripts to match the effect. In a recent interview, Nolan explained how he used Shepard tones in his newest film, Dunkirk: The screenplay had been written according to musical principals. There’s an audio illusion, if you will, in music called a “Shepard tone” and with my composer David Julyan on “The Prestige” we explored that and based a lot of the score around that. And it’s an illusion where there’s a continuing ascension of tone. It’s a corkscrew effect. It’s always going up and up and up but it never goes outside of its range. And I wrote the script according to that principle. Get breaking news and the latest headlines on business, entertainment, politics, world news, tech, sports, videos and much more from AOL.
